Most of the time when I post, I take some time to formulate the story in my head. After last night I don't think I will have time to do that for a while, so bear with my writing.
Last night we received a voice mail from our agency that a birthmother had seen our profile and would like a conference call with us.
We were dumbstruck because we thought that we would know about HER before she would be shown our profile. Now we know that under extreme situations, her being due any minute, that may not be the case, and that it would be perfectly fine if we declined, she would be told that we are 'unavailable'. That is what happened, but not after a few hours of tears, prayer and loving debate.
We were told that there were over 30 families that they could match her with, but out of the several profiles she was given, we were in her top 2! We are so relieved that our profile is good enough to be chosen. (Don't laugh, but she chose us because she wanted a family that was happy, active and OUTDOORSY!)
This birthmother, was carrying a girl, 20, caucasian, no drugs or alcohol, had pre-natal care, had insurance, and the birthfather was ready to sign. She was ready to give birth at anytime, BUT, she was in a state (not Utah) that would allow her to have 10 days to revoke her signature. Our hearts could not take, spending 14 days in a hotel room with a newborn baby girl to have to give her back in the end. With a Utah birth the mother is served at 24 hours and it is then irrevocable.
So we did decline, and our agent was more than understanding, she answered all of our questions and promised that the right match was coming, that we would get there.
So what we know now:
- We are likable on paper!
- We have had 2 birthmother calls in 2 weeks
- We could get a call with a birth that will happen immediately!!!!
- We need to get ready. (I am going to buy diapers and sleepers today)
